NER has been involved with the countries in the Caucasus region - Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan - for several years. The
CauSIN Project, a partnership between NER, MIT, and LLNL, is supported by the Department of Energy and involves nearly thirty scientists from six different countries. As principal investigator of this project, NER has played a crucial role in updating fault and tectonic maps, compiling a seismic database from historical records and modern digital networks, creating an earthquake hazard map of the region, and forming P-wave velocity models using crustal tomography. The three-year project ended in FY 2006, with a report to be published by DOE.
